Shaped and traumatised by the events of the cataclysm, Lilly cannot find peace in her post-war life. The paper situates this book, published in 1989, both within the works of Holocaust fiction for young people which deal with the child in hiding--novels written from 1952 to the present--and within a recently emerging corpus of first-person documentary material.
